Lunar New Year Regatta - Feb 28th and 29th

SATURDAY

What a day it was in Darling Harbour for the 2026 LNY races.

The weather God was with us, the predicted rain held off with a rather mild, cloudy and sometimes sunny day.

We entered two mixed crews in the senior A category, yellow and purple.

The purple team had 10 men and all the DA ladies and did themselves proud with the following results:

Heat 1 - 59.27 sec 3rd in their heat
Heat 2 - 57.64 sec 3rd in their heat, unfortunately, not making the final

The yellow team had 8 eight men and 12 women achieving the following results:

Heat 1 - 53.3 sec 3rd in their heat
Heat 2 - 53.14 sec 1st in their heat, they too missed out making the final. Unfortunately, when checking with the race secretary, the yellow crew just missed out on getting into the final coming in 7th!

With the mixed racing done and dusted it was time for the women's and open crew to take to the water.

The women were up first:

Heat 1 - 59.27 sec - 2nd in the heat
Heat 2 - 57.64 sec - 3rd in their heat and making the final in 6th position
Final - 58.29 sec - coming in 5th, an improvement on the qualifying position.

Now it was time for the opens to step up:

Heat 1 - 51.5 sec - 1st by a narrow margin of 0.03sec
Heat 2 - 50.91 sec - 2nd to Sloths just 1.2sec behind, getting into the final
Final - 50.79 sec coming in 3rd behind Sloths and DSA.

All in all a great effort by everyone!!

I would like to thank everyone for their cooperation throughout the day. No body went missing and all arrived to marshalling in plenty of time.

SUNDAY
While many of the sports crew were sleeping and recovering from Saturday’s strenuous efforts at Darling Harbour. our fellow Dragons Abreast Pendragons rose early and made their way back into Darling Harbour ready to do battle again. The DA crew had the BCS category in their sites.

DA Penragons raced through to the finals to get a Bronze. Only 0.00.24sec behind second place!

First race for MRT went well but it was realised after the first race that the group configuration needed to change or they faced racing disqualified.

In true Pendragons Spirit the DA ladies stepped up to the mark and into the MRT boat. With the new group configuration (DAPMRT) and 2 boats they hit the water, racing at a newer slightly faster rate!!!!!

They won their next heat at 53sec.Well done! this new commitment from the ladies meant they had to race 4 heats virtually in a row! As did the boys, a magnificent gesture and commitment from all.

Both groups made the finals in their categories with the extra racing taking its toll, but, what a terrific effort by everyone!

The DA’s to offer to help, and the MRT boys good grace to accept meant that they had to change their racing mindset.

All in all, a fine effort by all and a true display of Pendragons spirit.

Sometimes friendship and comradery is more valuable than a medal!
